"The Women"

Sacajawea

Sacajawea displayed great inner strength and stamina despite the trials and hardshipsshe faced through her lifetime.

At the age of eleven, her nation "the Shoshoni" was overtaken by the Minnertree and she was held captive.

Some time later she was sold to a French-Canadian fur trader who physically abused her and later abandoned her.

With a child to strapped to her back, Sacajawea helped lead the the Lewis and Clark expedition through the American West.

There are more statues of her than any other American woman.
