EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

MENTAL HEALTH SOCIAL SERVICE WORKER

Full Time

 

As Mental Health Social Services Worker, you will participate in the delivery of a mental health program that ensures Aboriginal people have access to culturally appropriate mental health services and programs, and to promote empowerment of Aboriginal people in determining their own mental health care needs.

 

The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:

 

Responsibilities

·      Work under the guidance and direction of the Case Manager to develop and implement various types of programming;

·      Provide and arrange for assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for children, adolescents and adults;

·      Make referrals for clients to traditional healing at the Health centre and/or mental health professionals as required;

·      Research best practices on mental health and Aboriginal People; source/develop culture based resources as required;

·      Advertise and promote the program via design and distribution of flyers, brochures and posters, presentations to organizations/agencies and at the community events;

·      Provide education and awareness to aboriginal community on mental issues amongst children, adolescents and adults;

·      Work in collaboration with other Health Centre programs and services;

·      Maintenance of statistical data (evaluations, surveys, interviews, observations).

 

Experience

·      Experience in program development, design, implementation and evaluation;

·      Practical work experience in social work, psychology and/or mental health services issues amongst children, adolescents and adults (minimum of 2 years preferred);

·      Proficiency in the use of computers, word processing and database software;

·      Experience in Case Management, Case Conferencing and compiling statistics;   

·      Excellent organizational and problem solving skills, as well as presentation, human relations and communication skills;

·      Demonstrated ability in working with Aboriginal people, communities and organizations with an understanding of Aboriginal culture, traditions and language.

 

Education

·      Post secondary diploma or degree in a health / social sciences / social services related field from a recognized University or College or a combination high school diploma with extensive related experience.
